Sketchbook Series: Bharathnatyam

Bharatanatyam is a classical Indian dance form that originated in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. It is known for its intricate footwork, expressive gestures, and complex rhythmic patterns.

There are several poses or positions in Bharatanatyam dance, which are called “adavus.” These adavus are the basic building blocks of the dance and are combined together to create a complete performance.

These are some of the different dances in Bharatanatyam, each with its own unique style, characteristics, and themes. The dance form requires years of training and practice to master, and is renowned for its beauty and grace.

This year for the Fine Art Market 2023 – I decided to focus on watercolour miniatures and experiment with the use of water-soluble ink. I am working mostly in my sketchbook and will produce some pieces that I will re-purpose for digital printmaking and collage.

I will be producing limited edition collectibles.
